I had a great view last night from my park bench (best seat in the
solar system) of the Moon sliding slowly under Jupiter.  It showed the
Moon's true west to east motion, over and above the east to west
motion we perceive from the Earth's rotation.  It also made apparent
the Moon's declination to the ecliptic.

The Moon made another beautiful transit under Jupiter Thursday
morning.  Jupiter was bright, but the stars of Saggitarius couldn't be
seen as the Moon cast a glow on the suburban smoggy haze.  The Moon
was travelling west to east on its orbit around the Earth, and so it
moved west to east past Jupiter.  The Earth was also rotating west to
east.  What direction was Jupiter going, Saul?

It mainly moves EASTWARD, DA!  A little bit north or south, but mainly
east.

~10 arc seconds East to West, from Wed to Fri.

...make that 'minutes'.

Ouch!  That's 60 times larger.  Still a tiny amount.

O.K., that's retrograde motion due to the Earth's motion  It's a tiny
amount too.
