You don't need Google to get on usenet (newsgroups).
Google doesn't own any newsgroups.
Whoever gives you access to the internet should also allow you to access and
download newsgroups, if you want.

That's not the point. TJ's a luddite. He's doing something wrong or
has clicked a link that makes it appear as if he's being denied
access.
Hey TJ why don't you describe your problem starting with the fact that
your're using a MAC to logon to the internet and that you use Google
Groups to post messages. Maybe somebody else here will recognize the
anomaly you're experiencing and tell you what's what.

Thanks for the response. Now, who gives me access to the
internet? Are you
talking about my service provider? That's bellsouth. Are you talking
about my
browser? That was internet explorer.
In a response from google I was told that my explorer version was
probably too
weak, so I went into my hard drive and found an old version of
netscape and am
now using that.
When I had outlook express for e-mail I was able to get the groups
directly on
my computer, but then one day it didn't work anymore, with a note
coming on the
screen saying my outlook express files had been "corrupted", which I
think is just
a fancy way of saying that outlook express on my computer is no longer
strong
enough to access the groups.
This is a boring response, I know, but that's because I'm not
good with the
techno speak. But I appreciate your response. I am now able to get
to the
groups using netscape. The IE would not work because it needed to
upgraded.
But my computer will not accept the IE upgrade. So I'm using this old
Netscape
which I do not like.
I am now aware than my problems are my own fault, that I am to
blame for
not upgrading with everyone else. Every so often you have to re-sole
your shoes
(or buy a new pair), so why should it be any different with computer
upgrades?
So now, soon I should know how much I really care about keeping up
with the
Jones's. If it costs more to feed my computer than it costs to feed
myself, one
of us will have to go, and it won't be me. But really, thanks for the
suggestions,
which I appreciate.

The easiest way to repair corrupt files (since your computer won't accept an
upgrade of IE) is to simply put the Windows CD in and reload Windows (95 or
98 or ME). The reload will keep all your favorites and accounts intact but
will fix all corrupt files and replace any missing files and make IE run
like it's supposed to (very good). Just make sure that you have the correct
code for that Windows CD version. A knowlegable friend can assist you with
this as it should only take about an hour.
I don't like Netscape either. I refer to it as "Nutscrape".

An hour? I'm a busy man. I haven't got all day! ...... Once
again, thanks
for the suggestions. I will save your response and pass it along to
someone who
might be willing listen. But till then, believe me, I don't even know
what windows
is. Reading all that techo speak (looking at it from a distance is
even more
startling - is like trying to read a foreign language. But I'm
serious. I just now
noitced it. Your paragraph was not intensely difficult to ingest, but
was also not
easy for me. But now, staring at your paragraph from a distance,
squinting my eyes on purpose to make it look like an entity unto
itself instead
of just a bunch of words strung together. It's like all I see is
IEWindowsCD94or98orMEIEWindowsCDVersion. Anyway, I'm serious, thanks
for the info.

You'll have to do a little better to be husband-worthy for
Suzieflame--at least find a way to get around NetNanny on the home
computer, for starters.
I have heard of this before. Now I know, some old dude tried to hook up
with a teenage girl on the internet and said the same thing when he was
busted "somone spoofed my ip guys. I swear.
